When our loved ones age - how do we care for them in retirement?

My wife and I both have parents who live interstate. My wife’s mother lives on her own. While our parents have enjoyed good health, they're now starting to have some concerns about their general wellbeing as their health begins to decline. In one case, they have had an accident in their home and couldn't get the response they need at the right time.

In the case of my father, who remarried  after the passing of my mother several years ago, we all have concerns about the wellbeing of his current wife if she had to assume the role of a carer. Sure, home care services are excellent and the carers do a wonderful job, but it doesn't remove the ever-mounting burden we feel with them living so far away.

I know many of you have similar stories and some of you are already dealing with challenging circumstances because your loved ones live a difficult distance from you. What can we do, recognising that companionship is paramount? Too many elderly people living in their own homes are disconnected and lonely.

How Renaissance provides support for retirees

I don’t want this to sound like a sales story, but because of my own emerging personal experiences, I am very conscious that we at Renaissance provide real answers to the dilemma that faces many people regarding their loved ones.

In my case I want to know that my parents are in an environment where they are enjoying friendship, social engagement, can access the critical services they need without driving, and are secure and confident in knowing they can receive additional support when they need it.

All our lives change daily, and of course we don’t know what is around the next corner. But we can prepare and it’s always better to do that early rather than in the height of an emergency situation.

Visit Renaissance at an Information Day

If you’d like to find out what is available and how you can assist your loved ones to have security and confidence, we invite you to attend an information session at Renaissance. You'll be able to talk with staff and residents to gain a better understanding of what services are available in the Redlands.

The session gives an overview on how retirement villages operate, what services are available, how they are delivered in a retirement village environment, how fees are calculated and what they include, and what to look for when searching for living facilities for seniors.

Perhaps most importantly, you'll be able to talk with some of our residents about their experiences, and how they and their families dealt with their particular concerns.
